1. Delicious Food
We didn’t have one bad meal in Sicily. The food was so good, we ate so much – seafood, pizza, pasta and not to forget plenty of Gelato!
We had a couple of stand out meals (those pictured below). One being in a seafront restaurant in Cefalù where we ate some fresh seafood, and the other being in Castelbuono where we had a 4 course set menu and we were so stuffed by the end.
2. Historic Villages and Quaint Cobbled Streets
We loved exploring the historic towns of Cefalù, Erice and Castelbuono during our stay in Sicily. Cefalù is a coastal town with sandy beaches, a good selection of restaurants, medieval streets, squares and a cathedral. We based ourselves in Cefalù for a week and hired a villa in the hills with spectacular views over to La Rocca and Cefalù town. We then took day trips in our hire car to Erice and Castelbuono. Erice had the most amazing views as you can see for miles across farmland and down the coast, and Castelbuono is an ancient town nestled in the Sicilian hills.
3. Sicilian Countryside
On our drive from the airport to Cefalù it struck me how beautiful the Sicilian countryside is – I loved the green rolling hills with all the old towns and farmhouses dotted around.
4. Crumbling Old Villas
As we were driving around the Sicilian countryside, my eyes were drawn to a number of crumbling old magnificent villas. My imagination ran wild with thoughts of rich Mafia families once owning these impressive properties.
5. Amazing Viewpoints
It seems that every place we visited in Sicily had numerous beautiful viewpoints as demonstrated by the handful of images below.
